Happy Holidays to All!
Here we are at the end of what turned out to be a very challenging year for just about everyone the world over. Did we ever think last Spring that the pandemic would still be with us at the December holidays? Absolutely not!
At least we can turn the page and say good-bye to 2020 and look forward to a new year in just a few weeks.
It is typical when we come to the end of a year to reflect back on events and milestones that transpired. As a club we can look back at what we have accomplished and be proud of the impacts we’ve made within our own Valley community. Each of these activities required us to “roll up our sleeves” to help and we did just that!
September - our club completely renovated the interior of the Buellton Thrift Store so that it now presents a fresh, clean look for store patrons. The Thrift Store provides a major revenue stream for the Buellton Senior Center that serves so many Valley residents.
October – our club and two youth groups began filling treat bags with goodies and toys for children of families participating in the Bethania food distribution program. Over 150 treat bags are given out to the children two times per month. We also donated $2,000 to the food program.
November - our club helped PHP with its Turkey Drive, collecting turkeys and money to provide a Thanksgiving meal for needy families. The club also helped PHP with its annual coat drive
December- our club supported the Valley Christmas Basket program by filling food bins and distributing them to over 130 needy families – we donated $1,000 to the program as well.
In this crazy pandemic time I feel so happy that our “little club that can and does” has been able to accomplish all of the above. We use safe practices and we haven’t missed a beat. We are an amazing little club and it makes me so proud of all of you – the energy, tenacity and creativity you exude is awesome.
This next six months will, no doubt, have its share of challenges but I’m hoping that we will be able to meet in person before my presidency is over. Time will tell…. For now, we’ve been successful with our virtual meetings and our attendance has been good. Let’s keep it up, team!
More club activities are on the 2021 horizon – a fundraiser, new programs, some virtual contests and possibly a surprise guest or two! One thing is for certain - we will continue to have fun, build friendships and make an impact.
May Your Holiday Be Filled with Love, Laughter and Peaceful Contentment
