President's Message

Hello All!
As we run head long into the election, and wonder where we fall in the virus “color spectrum” - not to mention the holidays fast approaching – we all have a lot on our minds. Right now I’m thinking what we, as a club, can do within our community to help provide some holiday happiness and cheer for those less fortunate. Whether we drop off a plate of Christmas cookies to homebound seniors or hand out warm coats to those who have nothing to ward off the Valley’s cold nights – our Community Service Committee and your club Board of Directors have been giving the upcoming holidays in our community some serious thought. Perhaps it's a struggling family where the parents lost their jobs and the children face a bleak Christmas, much less have food on the table. Maybe there is a senior that needs help or just some companionship – maybe getting a Christmas card in the mail will make their day. It’s the simple things…

With so much not going to happen and holiday gatherings being cancelled this year I fear many in our community are going to be alone during this time that should be filled with family and friends. Rotary is the organization that steps up in times like these and I know our club will be helping to make this holiday “merry and bright” for others – so stay tuned for the next community service adventure.

Yours in Rotary,
Chris

Judy's Polio Challenge to YOU
Chris and I talked about a challenge that I would like to propose to you. Would you like to raise money for Polio Plus without dipping into your wallet or writing a check? You can by simply showing up and walking. I will pay $10 a mile for any member of our club who shows up at Sunny Fields at 4 pm on Tuesday, November 3rd and walks. If you want to walk one mile or four miles, it’s up to you. You tell me how many miles you walked from 4-5 at Sunny Fields and I will send in the money. It’s that simple.
(But, please don’t ask me to pay for miles walked earlier in the day or at a different location). If you are wondering why I am doing this, I should finish my 100 mile walk For Polio Plus on the 3rd and would like to finish it with club members working toward eradicating Polio.

I hope to see you at Sunny Fields Park

Judy
Trick or Treat and Beyond
It was fun to work alongside the Youth Empowered Leadership Team of kids as we stuffed 75 treat bags for the children of families who partake in the Bethania food distribution each Tuesday. Dunn School students also stuffed 75 treat bags and Alice reported that they had a great time and are looking forward to next month’s bag stuffing. Both groups did a fantastic job and they truly enjoyed working on this worthwhile project.

The bags for both boys and girls this past week had a Halloween theme. The bags were filled with fun little toys like colored pens, stickers, “fake” teeth, bubbles and, of course, Halloween candy. We heard that the Halloween treat bags were a bit hit and now we’re getting excited to plan what holiday themed goodies will go into the November and December treat bags.

District Conference, Nov. 6-8, 2020
I want to put in a plug for the 2020 District Conference coming up November 6-8.
District 5240 has worked hard to create a virtual conference that will be packed with inspirational speakers, informative presentations, fun activities and time to meet your fellow District members in other clubs. The District does a very good job with its virtual meetings and I highly encourage you to register for the Conference. And…it’s free for you to attend! The Club will pay for your registration ($25) so when you sign up for the District Conference just let Judy know and she will reimburse you the registration fee. Here is the link to register for the 2020 District 5240 Conference. Remember, you’re good at ZOOM now so jump on in and join some great people of action!  www.rotary5240dc.com
