The second quarter of our Rotary year (Oct-Dec) is jam packed with community service and fun (and the first rain of the winter season as I type this). We are the Little Club that Can and Does, but it does take all of us pitching in where we can to make it all happen.
Kudos to Judy and Chris for pulling together the Halloween goodie bags for the kids of families in need that are still going to Bethania on Tuesdays for food distribution. We used our meeting last week to get all the members engaged in helping to stuff the bags and have some nice fellowship at the same time. Thanks to Rich Nagler and Judy for helping to pull together the parade for Los Olivos Day in the Country!
We've had some fun programs like learning how to make a simple origami bunny and how John Copeland and his team make movie (well, TV commercial) magic. Coming up we have the executive director from Hillside House in Santa Barbara, a veterans advocate and Angels Foster Care. Lots of great opportunities to learn about our community.
I know many of you have been traveling now that Covid is trending back downward and we've missed you! And several of you are on leave due to work obligations--we miss you too! But we welcome you back whenever you are able to attend and we look forward to recruiting new members too. There's lots to do to support our community and projects around the world, so bring a friend and introduce them to the magic of Rotary!
We are excited to welcome new member Nancy Schultz!
A new resident of Los Olivos, Nancy works part-time at J. Woeste's and was looking for a way to get more involved in the community and meet people. Her husband is Hank and he's a retired architectural artist (hey...maybe there's a craft talk possibility!) and is getting involved in the Los Olivos Gallery. They just added a petanque court and invite us to come and play sometime! They also love food and wine so aren't they just the perfect fit for our Valley and our Club? Welcome, Nancy and Hank!
Eradicating polio has been one of Rotary International's "prime directives" and we are getting so close with only a few wild cases occurring this past year! But we can't let our foot off the gas quite yet. For the next month, we all need to pitch in to raise funds for the polio vaccination efforts. You can do a project and collect pledges or just donate outright to RI: https://poliocampaign.rotary.org/
