New Cancer Center

Rick Scott, president of the Santa Barbara Cancer Center was on hand last week to tell us about the new $54M building now being built near Cottage Hospital.  I had no idea that onc of the most advanced cancer research facilities was right here in our back yard.  Since their founding in 1949, they have had the most advanced equipment with doctors working on the leading edge of the science.

The new building will be ready later this year and will replace the old one in the Cottage Hospital complex.  Santa Barbara Cancer Center is now a part of Sansum.

PRLS 4/5 on 2/25

The club is again sponsoring a full day of leader- ship training here in the Valley.  Rotarians from other clubs are invited.  The most likely venue is the Grange, but that is not yet final.  Let President John know if you are interested.  The requirement of having attended Basic PRLS is no longer in effect.

Los Prietos Fundraiser

Our Vocational Service chair, Joe Sanguinet, reminds everyone about the upcoming fund raising event for the Los Prietos Boys Camp on February 25 at the Carriage Museum in Santa Barbara.  Barbecue, live entertainment and a raffle are planned.  Contact James Clark at 692-1757 to buy tickets or donate a raffle prize.

Rotoract Club Organizing

Several Rotarians are trying to start a Rotoract club in the Valley.  Rotoract is Rotary for young adults (20-30) without the expense or time commitment of a regular Rotary club.  Do you know anyone in that age range that might be interested?  Let President John know.

Job Shadowing

Larry Edwards talked about a project the Solvang club is working on.  Working the the SB County Education Office and the local high school, they are creating a job shadowing resource for students who want to learn about a specific job or industry.  Individuals and businesses are being asked to volunteer to host a student for 2-4 hours at their place of business to give the student an idea what working in that field is like.

How do you Read this?

The bulletin is late this week because it crashed on Monday.  This happens about once a month when I click on something outside the part I am editing and everything is lost.  In the past, I have been able to call ClubRunner and they have been able to restore what I had done from a cache. Their phone number is no longer in the help or on their website and they have not responded to my "high priority" email request for assistance. I am considering a different format, perhaps a PDF document that would come as an email attachment.  That would probably be difficult to read on a phone. Please let me know if you normally read the bulletin on your phone.
