Stories
At last week's meeting, Hilary Wilson updated us on the vegetable garden at Los Olivos School. We contributed money to get the garden established a couple years ago. Hilary is a part-time teacher whose only duty is teaching the children about gardening, the environment and trying new vegetables. She told an amusing story about a little boy who didn't like vegetables at all, but was intrigued by his friends all enjoying what she had prepared and tried it himself. His mother later asked her for the recipe.

Our money was well spent. Click here for some photos.

In years past, the club has served tri-tip sandwiches at Quick Draw & Arts Festival presented by Santa Ynez Valley Arts. This year we have been offered the opportunity to sell desserts while Mattei's wi;ll be providing most of the food. Camilla Nichols is heading up the event where we will be serving stawberry shortcake. In addition, we will be setting up some of our canopies for the artists. ClubRunner offers a volunteer signup feature that has been implemented for this event. Click here or on Quick Draw link in the upper right corner of the home page. There is a button on the left where you can choose what tasks you would like to do.
ClubRunner has a handy feature for creating online bulletins. When I first joined Rotary more than 30 years ago, a substantial part of the club's budget was for postage for the weekly bulletin mailed to all the members. Editing the weekly bulletin was almost as much work being club president. At some point, monthly bulletins took over, but it was still a lot of work for whomever got stuck with the job. Get a little behind and its a nightmare trying to get caught up.

With a preset template already set up in ClubRunner, creating a bulletin is no longer a big hassle. But it does require someone to be at each meeting. I am looking for two or three others who will make sure we have a bulletin every week. With four contributors, one of us would be responsible for one bulletin a month, only 12 times a year. Take a few notes and photos at the meeting, then spend an hour writing up the bulletin. Please contact me if you would like to join The Olive Branch staff. In fact, ClubRunner allows different authors to each contribute stories to a bulletin.
Need help getting into ClubRunner? Download the TeamViewer client, then call Dean at 697-7025 and he will connect with your computer and walk you through the problem.

The most common problem is not being able to log in. Your old username and password from the old system no longer work. You will need to click the link to retrieve your login and reset your password. If what you entered is in the database, you will receive an email. Click the link in the email. It will assign your email address as a temporary login name. Enter the password you want to use. You can change your login later if you want to.

Dean will be hosting a special meeting at his home on Wednesday, August 5 at 5:30 to train board members and anyone interested in updating the information in ClubRunner. Hamburgers and pot luck salads and veggies. RSVP. Bring your laptop.
